Nigerian literary icon Chinua Achebe was recently celebrated at the Freedom Park, Lagos on Thursday 18th July 2013 at an event tagged A Toast to an Extraordinary Life – Chinua Achebe.
Hosted by Moet & Chandon, the event saw in attendance, fans of the renowned novelist and humanitarian who died on Thursday 21st March 2013 in Boston, Massachusetts, at the age of 82.
The evening kicked off with a networking session. Thereafter, a reading session curated by award winning journalist/writer Tolu Ogunlesi kicked off.
Journalists/writers Jahman Anikulapo, Toyin Akinosho and Deji Toye took turns to read excerpts from a few of Chinua Achebe’s books including Things Fall Apart, A Man of the People, Anthills of the Savannah, No Longer at Ease, Arrow of God and There Was a Country.
Renowned writer/playwright Prof. Wole Soyinka was the special guest of honour at the event. Also spotted at the event were radio personality Wana Udobang, Nigerian writer Okechukwu Ofili, singer/songwriter Temi Dollface, Kemi Adetiba, Ebi Atawodi and Chris Ihidero.
